Starting point
Musikhaus Thomann is a family business from Upper Franconia, founded in 1954, and Europe's largest music retailer. Its range covers musical instruments, studio, lighting and PA equipment and accessories, for beginners and professionals alike.
Thomann worked with a wide range of data, from transactions and inventory to purchasing and marketing. There were many sources, a highly branched business structure and no specialised data team.
The key question came from purchasing: how can a business with such a broad assortment buy more efficiently and profitably? The solution had to keep pace with growth, fit into Thomann's own tools and must not interrupt day-to-day operations.
What we built
We built a serverless data platform on Google Cloud Platform that became the central place to store and retrieve all company data.
- Central data warehouse in Google BigQuery
- Documented, versioned data pipelines with Dataform
- More than 100 dashboards in Looker Studio for the business units
- A dedicated permission manager for data access
- AutoML forecasting models for purchasing and sales trends
- Automated alerts when metrics move out of range

Outcome
Data is accessible across the company, and decisions in purchasing, warehousing and sales rely on the same numbers. Thomann has built an in-house data team that carries the platform forward today.
„Thanks to datadice, we have revolutionised our data management and achieved concrete business results. The solution enabled us to make precise data-driven decisions, which is crucial for our position in the dynamic e-commerce market.“
